Did anyone else skip October? We are still living in a new world here in WNC. There are echos of a routine that have started to creep back into daily life but this routine is coupled with questions of, do we need to get more drinking water today…..should we shower or not shower in the water at home….do we leave earlier for work since we never know what roads might be closed…how are permits coming along to fix the house or business….
One of our old routines we’ve struggled with are words and social media posts this month because we don’t know where to start. Doing what we always did doesn’t seem to cut it right now. So, we apologize for our lack of energy in these things.
We do know this….we all need to get back to a wellness routine. The endorphins that show up when we walk, run, get on the bike, do a hard workout, help taper that nervous system and allow our bodies to heal. Starting to find good nutrition if we have access to it, also helps heal from the inside out. Spending time in gratitude to God of both simple and complex things positively shapes our thoughts. Giving ourselves some self care….will help us with the long road ahead….our family, our neighbors, our friends will continue to need us….we need to make sure we have “us” to still give.
So, here are some suggestions and encouragement your way. Do one activity a day that brings you joy. Walk for 10 minutes in the morning before dropping the kids off at school. Run at lunch time and bring a change of clothes (no one is showering these days anyway), take a day and head to an open trail that you haven’t been on before, volunteer to clear a trail, join a new workout class with others to hold you accountable. Give yourself permission to have new goals.
We are doing the same here as staff at MTN Wellness. We have restarted our women’s strength class in the mornings. We are planning a new mid day class on Fridays starting in January that focuses on core work. Running and riding are finding a different place on our schedules.
Other updates….MTN Wellness will continue to remain at Wellspring in Black Mountain 3 days a week. Our other home at McHone Performance Training will hopefully be ready in the next couple of months and we are excited to see what the new year will bring. We have about 6 more sponsored visits left from our generous donors. We have been able to serve 30 sessions over the past 6 weeks with those gifts. It has been a joy to be able to do this and we thank you for all those who supported us and who came to use those visits.
Mountain Wellness loves to serve our outdoor enthusiasts and we are blessed to do that in numerous ways such as performance training, specialized sports medicine rehab, women’s health, nutrition and the daily stuff….just feeling good! We are like no other PT practice you have experienced and it's our goal to stay that way.
One last thing if you have made it this far…..what topics would you like us to cover in our social media and blog? What may have come to light during this historical time in WNC? What do you need encouragement with? Drop us an email or text. We want to serve YOU!
Happy November. We have much to be thankful for. #MountainStrong
